Frequently asked questions

About the lobby, the supported expansions and the project's direction.

  • How is Raiding Lab different from a regular WoW private server?
Think of Raiding Lab less like a private server you log into and more like a game lobby — the way League of Legends or Dota set up a match. You open a room, pick a raid, your friends or guild join, everyone clicks ready, the lobby spins up a fresh private server just for the group, and you launch straight into the raid. Only your raid group, on a clean instance, every time.
  • Which World of Warcraft expansions are supported?
Three expansions are fully supported today: The Burning Crusade (2.4.3), Wrath of the Lich King (3.3.5a) and Cataclysm (4.3.4). Classic (1.12) is on the roadmap. You pick the expansion when you create a room — the lobby detects or downloads the matching client and the orchestrator boots the right private server stack.
  • Do I have to rebuild my character every time I play?
No. Each lobby account stores many character presets, several per expansion if you like. Class, race, talents, gear, glyphs and consumables are all saved. The lobby keeps every preset ready and injects the one you pick into any room you join, so you're fully geared the moment you log in. Switching from your WotLK warrior to your Cataclysm mage — or from your DPS warrior to your tank — is one click.
  • Which raids can I run on Raiding Lab?
Every raid from the three supported expansions. The Burning Crusade: Karazhan, Gruul's Lair, Magtheridon's Lair, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, Hyjal Summit, Black Temple, Zul'Aman and Sunwell Plateau. Wrath of the Lich King: Naxxramas, the Obsidian Sanctum, the Eye of Eternity, Vault of Archavon, Ulduar, Trial of the Crusader, Onyxia's Lair, Icecrown Citadel and the Ruby Sanctum. Cataclysm: Baradin Hold, the Bastion of Twilight, Blackwing Descent, Throne of the Four Winds, Firelands and Dragon Soul. Every boss, every difficulty (Normal, Heroic), every raid size (10-man, 25-man).
  • Is Raiding Lab free?
Yes. Raiding Lab is free to download and free to use — no subscription, no donations, no premium tier, no in-game store. The Windows installer is on the download page, you bring your own World of Warcraft client (or the lobby fetches one for you), and the orchestrator handles the rest on its own infrastructure.
  • What's on the roadmap?
Lots of ideas on the table, no commitments on dates: persistent in-game progression across sessions, raid leaderboards, custom difficulty scaling, full dungeon support, ranked battlegrounds and arena, and Classic (1.12) once the emulator stack is ready. Raiding Lab is in public alpha — the roadmap will shape itself around how people actually play.
